Since 1980, the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network (The Network) has been dedicated to serving the needs of domestic violence survivors throughout metropolitan Chicago. Over the years, The Network’s membership has grown into a chain of nearly 100 organizations and individuals whose shared expertise has strengthened our collective voice. Through centralized resources, such as advocacy, education, and community outreach, every link in The Network’s chain plays a vital role in bringing an end to society’s tolerance of domestic violence in metropolitan Chicago.

The Network is a collaborative membership organization dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by domestic violence through education, public policy and advocacy, and the connection of community members to direct service providers.

Position Summary

The Special Event Intern will assist in the many tasks necessary to successfully run The Network’s special fundraising events including all aspects of committee work, detail organization, donation seeking, communications, and marketing.

Potential Intern Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of donation request letters
  • Assist in creative thinking for event promotion material design
  • Assist in making follow-up phone calls, including donation and sponsor request, media outreach, chef contacts, & attendee information
  • Attend committee meetings (One evening per month)
  • ü  Provide comprehensive minutes from monthly committee meetings to event co-chairs for dissemination to the larger group
  • Oversee donor tracking regarding all aspects of event (Auction donations made, committed sponsors, committed chef participants, in-kind donations made, attendees purchases and donations)
  • Assist in the creation of promotional emails utilizing online email communication program
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have completed high school or the equivalent, some college preferred
  • Possess strong language and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Demonstrate exceptional organization and attention to detail
  • Exemplify solid leadership ability and initiative
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively
